A comic from Toothpaste For Dinner.
My husband inspired the post for today. He hasn't been feeling well for the last few days with symptoms of fatigue, sore throat, headache, and some coughing (mainly from the sore throat).
Because of the general congested feeling when a cold arrives, upper back and throat opening poses can be very beneficial. Mixing that with restorative poses yoga can help when you're feelng a little down from a cold.
Here is a my quick sequence for practicing yoga with a cold. (If you don't know what a pose looks like, click on the link to see the Yoga Journal explanation.)
- A few rounds of cat/cow to warm-up the spine.
- Make your way to Mountain Pose.
- Lift arms into Upward Salute.
- Sit back into Chair Pose.
- Stand back up to Upward Salute.
- Dive your arms forward and down to Forward Bend.
- Plant your hands on the floor as you bend your knees and slowly roll to lie on your back.
- Keeping your knees in line with your hips and heels roll up into Bridge Pose. (x2)
- Lift your chest as you rest your head on the floor into Fish Pose, using your forearms to push into the ground.
- Relax down into Supported Corpse Pose with a rolled blanked under the knees and a bolster underneath the spine.
Listen to your body, especially if you're feeling unwell.
Loving Thoughts. Loving Words. Loving Heart.
